Vastu Shastra Basics — Directions, Elements & Home Tips
वास्तु शास्त्र मूल बातें
Vastu Shastra is the ancient Indian science of architecture and spatial arrangement. It harmonizes buildings with natural forces by aligning with the five elements (Pancha Bhuta) and the eight directions.
The 5 Elements and Directions: Earth (Southwest — stability), Water (Northeast — clarity), Fire (Southeast — energy), Air (Northwest — movement), Space (Center — Brahmasthana — should be open).
8 Direction Guidelines for Homes:
North (Kubera — wealth): Keep this area open and clean. Place a safe or locker here. Green plants are beneficial.
Northeast (Ishanya — divinity): Ideal for puja room, water features, and meditation space. Must be the lightest and cleanest corner.
East (Indra — prosperity): Main entrance here is most auspicious. Morning sunlight should enter freely.
Southeast (Agni — fire): Kitchen should be here. Cook facing East. Fire-related equipment (stove, boiler, inverter) belongs here.
South (Yama — strength): Master bedroom here is ideal. Heavy furniture and storage can be placed in this direction.
Southwest (Nairutya — stability): Best for master bedroom or heavy storage. This should be the heaviest part of the home.
West (Varuna — water): Children's bedroom or study room. Dining room can also be here.
Northwest (Vayu — wind): Guest bedroom, garage, or bathroom. This direction supports movement and change.
Brahmasthana (Center): Must remain open and unobstructed. No pillars, heavy furniture, or toilets in the center of the home.
