Gemstones (Ratna) are powerful remedies in Vedic astrology. Each of the 9 planets has a designated gemstone that strengthens its energy when worn correctly.

The Navaratna (9 gems): Ruby (Manik) — Sun, Pearl (Moti) — Moon, Red Coral (Moonga) — Mars, Emerald (Panna) — Mercury, Yellow Sapphire (Pukhraj) — Jupiter, Diamond (Heera) — Venus, Blue Sapphire (Neelam) — Saturn, Hessonite (Gomed) — Rahu, Cat's Eye (Lehsunia) — Ketu.

Critical rules for wearing gemstones: NEVER wear a gemstone for a malefic planet in your chart — it amplifies negative effects. Always consult a qualified astrologer before wearing any gemstone. The gemstone must be natural, untreated, and of good quality. It should be set in the correct metal (gold for Sun/Jupiter/Mars, silver for Moon, gold or silver for others).

Finger assignments: Sun — ring finger (right hand), Moon — little finger, Mars — ring finger, Mercury — little finger, Jupiter — index finger, Venus — ring finger/little finger, Saturn — middle finger, Rahu — middle finger, Ketu — ring finger/little finger.

When to wear: Each gemstone should be first worn on the day of its ruling planet during the planet's Hora (planetary hour). The gemstone should be energized with the planet's mantra before wearing.

Alternative stones (Upratna): Ruby → Red Garnet, Pearl → Moonstone, Red Coral → Carnelian, Emerald → Green Tourmaline, Yellow Sapphire → Citrine, Diamond → White Sapphire, Blue Sapphire → Amethyst.
