Bhava Chalit Chart — House Cusps vs Rashi Chart Differences Explained
भाव चलित चार्ट — भाव शिखर बनाम राशि चार्ट
The Bhava Chalit Chart is one of the most important yet misunderstood concepts in Vedic astrology. While the Rashi (D1) chart shows planets in zodiac signs, the Bhava Chalit chart shows planets in actual houses — and these can differ significantly.
Why the difference? In the Rashi chart, each house equals one complete sign (30°). But in reality, the Lagna (ascendant) can be at any degree within a sign. The Bhava Chalit chart calculates the actual midpoint (Bhava Madhya) of each house, creating house cusps that may place a planet in a different house than the Rashi chart shows.
Example: If your Lagna is at 25° Aries and Jupiter is at 5° Taurus, the Rashi chart shows Jupiter in the 2nd house (Taurus). But in Bhava Chalit, since the 1st house cusp extends from ~10° Aries to ~10° Taurus, Jupiter at 5° Taurus may actually fall in the 1st house functionally.
When to use which chart: - Rashi chart: For planetary dignity (exalted, debilitated, own sign), Dasha analysis, and planetary relationships. - Bhava Chalit: For determining in which HOUSE a planet actually gives its results. This is crucial for predicting career, marriage, health, and other house-specific matters.
Practical impact: A planet appearing in one house in Rashi chart but a different house in Bhava Chalit will give results related to BOTH houses — but primarily the Bhava Chalit house for worldly results.
Many software programs (including AstroMangal) generate both charts. Always check the Bhava Chalit when a planet is near the cusp of a house boundary.
