Marriage Muhurat 2026 — Auspicious Wedding Dates & Timings
विवाह मुहूर्त 2026 — शुभ विवाह तिथि और समय
Choosing an auspicious marriage muhurat (wedding date and time) is one of the most important decisions in Hindu wedding planning. The muhurat ensures that the couple begins their married life during a cosmically supportive period, maximizing harmony, prosperity, and longevity of the union. In Vedic tradition, a poorly timed wedding is believed to invite unnecessary challenges, while an auspicious muhurat provides a strong foundation.
How Wedding Muhurat is Calculated
A proper wedding muhurat considers multiple astrological factors simultaneously. The Tithi (lunar day) must be auspicious — Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi, Dwadashi, and Trayodashi of Shukla Paksha are generally preferred. Amavasya (new moon), Chaturdashi (14th), and Purnima (full moon) are typically avoided.
The Nakshatra must be favorable for marriage. The best wedding Nakshatras are Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Moola (with caution), Uttara Ashadha, Shravana, Dhanishta (first half), Uttara Bhadrapada, and Revati. Bharani, Krittika, Ardra, Ashlesha, Vishakha (last quarter), and Jyeshtha are generally avoided.
The Yoga should not be Vishkambha, Atiganda, Shoola, Ganda, Vyaghata, Vajra, Vyatipata, Parigha, or Vaidhriti. The Lagna (Ascendant) at the time of marriage should ideally be a fixed sign (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) for stability.
Additionally, the period must be free of Chaturmas (July-November), when Vishnu sleeps and auspicious ceremonies are traditionally avoided. Pitru Paksha (ancestor fortnight) and eclipses are also excluded.
Month-by-Month Auspicious Periods in 2026
January-February sees several good wedding dates before Maha Shivaratri. This is a popular wedding season in North India. March has limited dates due to Holashtak (8 days before Holi) and Chaitra Navratri, but dates after Ram Navami may be available.
April-May offers good muhurat windows, particularly around Akshaya Tritiya (April 21), which is universally auspicious for weddings. June has some dates before the onset of Chaturmas.
The wedding season resumes strongly after Dev Uthani Ekadashi in November. November-December is peak wedding season with many auspicious dates available, making it the busiest period for venues and caterers.
Matching the Couple's Charts
Beyond the general muhurat, the wedding date should also be compatible with both the bride's and groom's birth charts. The Lagna at the wedding time should not be the 6th, 8th, or 12th from either person's Moon sign. The best practice is to have the muhurat calculated by a qualified Jyotish who can consider both charts together.
The exact time of the Pheras (the seven rounds around the sacred fire) is the most critical — this is when the marriage is astrologically 'sealed' and the muhurat must be precise at this moment.
