What is Muhurat? — Auspicious Timing in Vedic Astrology

Muhurat (मुहूर्त) is the science of selecting the most auspicious time for important activities. In Vedic astrology, the RIGHT time to start an activity is as important as the activity itself.

Muhurat considers multiple factors: Tithi (lunar day), Nakshatra (star), Yoga, Karana, Vara (weekday), Lagna (ascendant at the time), and absence of Rahu Kaal and other inauspicious periods.

Common Muhurat categories: Vivah Muhurat (marriage), Griha Pravesh (housewarming), Mundan (first haircut), Vehicle Purchase, Business Start, Property Purchase, Construction Start.

Abhijit Muhurat occurs daily around midday — it is universally auspicious for all activities. Rahu Kaal, Yamagandam, and Gulika Kaal are inauspicious periods to avoid.
