How this muhurta is determined
An engagement borrows the wedding's star-list but not its full strictness — Chaturmas, which blocks weddings, does not block a roka or ring ceremony in most traditions, which is why winter engagements for post-Chaturmas weddings are so common.
This is the first of the two-person muhurtas: from here on, every date must clear two charts. The widget below checks one rashi at a time — run it once for each partner and keep only the dates green for both. Anuradha, the star of friendship, is especially prized for the ceremony that begins a partnership.
Vishti (Bhadra) at the hour of the ring is avoided as with all ceremonies; exchange rings in a Shubh or Amrit Choghadiya, and let the elders' blessing be the closing act of the muhurta window.

Can sagai happen during Chaturmas even if the wedding cannot?
Most traditions allow engagement, roka and even haldi-mehndi planning during Chaturmas — the prohibition binds the vivah sanskar itself. Families often engage in Shravan-Bhadrapada and wed after Devuthani Ekadashi.
Whose rashi decides the engagement date?
Both. Run the date through each partner's rashi and choose one that is Chandrashtama for neither — and if birth stars are known, favour a day whose tara is good for both.
