How this muhurta is determined
A first day at work is a beginning (arambha), so muhurta rules for auspicious starts apply: Rikta tithis (4th, 9th, 14th) and Amavasya are avoided, as is Vishti (Bhadra) karana. Thursday — Jupiter's day — is the classical favourite for career beginnings, because Jupiter signifies growth and dignity; Wednesday (Mercury) suits roles in communication, analysis and trade.
Saturday is generally avoided for joining: Saturn begins things slowly and with obstruction. If your joining date is fixed by HR and falls on a weaker day, do the first formal act — signing, logging in, accepting the ID card — inside an auspicious Choghadiya window (Shubh, Labh or Amrit) and outside Rahu Kaal. The muhurta attaches to the first act, not the whole day.
Personally, the strongest filter is chandrabal: joining while the Moon transits the 8th house from your rashi (Chandrashtama, about 2½ days each month) is considered the single most unfavourable timing, whatever the panchang says generally.

You rarely need to renegotiate the date. Perform the first formal act — reporting, signing, or your first task — within a Shubh, Labh or Amrit Choghadiya and outside Rahu Kaal on that day, and keep the day simple. The beginning takes the quality of its first deliberate act.
Which weekday is best for joining a new job?
Thursday (Guruvar) is the classical first choice — Jupiter rules growth, wisdom and fortune. Monday, Wednesday and Friday are also favourable. Saturday is avoided, and Tuesday only suits roles under Mars, like defence, surgery, sports or engineering fieldwork.
