Raksha Bandhan 2026 — Date, Muhurat & Significance
रक्षा बंधन 2026
Raksha Bandhan (Rakhi) celebrates the sacred bond between brothers and sisters. Sisters tie a protective thread (Rakhi) on their brother's wrist, and brothers pledge to protect them. It falls on the full moon day (Purnima) of Shravana month.
📅 Hindu Calendar 2026 →The Rakhi tying ceremony should be performed during an auspicious Muhurat — ideally during Aparahna Kaal (afternoon) and avoiding Bhadra period. If Bhadra falls during the daytime, the ritual should be postponed until Bhadra ends.
Historical references: Draupadi tying a strip of cloth on Krishna's wrist (he protected her in the court of Kauravas). Queen Karnavati of Mewar sending Rakhi to Mughal Emperor Humayun for protection.
Modern celebration: Sisters tie Rakhi, perform aarti, apply tilak on brother's forehead. Brothers give gifts and sweets. The festival has expanded beyond biological siblings to include cousins, friends, and soldiers.
