🎀 Which date is auspicious for godh bharai?

गोद भराई का शुभ मुहूर्त • computed from live planetary positions

हिन्दी में पढ़ें →

Godh bharai — the Simantonnayana sanskar — is held in the sixth or eighth month by the texts, popularly in the seventh, on a gentle or nourishing nakshatra (Rohini, Mrigashira, Pushya, Hasta, Anuradha, Shravana, Revati) on a favourable tithi or Purnima — and on a day when the mother-to-be's own Moon is strong.

🩺 Her comfort and her doctor come first

Everything on this page is traditional timing guidance for a journey or ceremony that medicine has already approved. A pregnant woman's comfort, rest and her doctor's advice always override the panchang — the muhurta only helps choose the gentlest day among the ones that are already safe. Travel should never be framed as unsafe on astrological grounds.

How this muhurta is determined

Simantonnayana is one of the sixteen sanskars, and its purpose is the mother's joy — the texts say the ceremony exists to keep her mind bright in the final months. That is why her personal calendar leads: a generically fine date on her Chandrashtama defeats the sanskar's own purpose. The dates below already exclude them once you set her rashi.

Purnima is welcomed here — fullness for fullness — and Pushya, the nourisher, is the most loved star for it. The ceremony sits in daylight, ideally closing before Rahu Kaal; the gifts placed in her lap (the "godh") should include grain and fruit, the old symbols of a laden harvest.

Keep the guest list and the hour within her energy. A shorter ceremony on a perfect day honours the sanskar more than a grand one that exhausts its guest of honour.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the seventh month correct for godh bharai?

The texts name the sixth or eighth month for Simantonnayana; the popular seventh-month celebration sits comfortably between them and is accepted across regions. Within whichever month your family keeps, choose a gentle-nakshatra day that is personally strong for the mother.

Can godh bharai and the maika journey share a date?

Traditionally the godh bharai happens at the sasural and the journey follows — often within days. Give each its own muhurta: the ceremony on her strongest day, the journey by the travel rules on our Pregnancy Travel page.
