How this muhurta is determined
Vidyarambha traditionally happens at age five (some regions, three), the child's hand guided to write the first letters — often "Om" or the aksharas — in a plate of rice. Mercury and Jupiter, intellect and wisdom, own its weekdays; Shravana, the star of listening, and Hasta, the hand, head its stars.
Basant Panchami holds a unique position: it is the sarvasiddhi day for vidyarambha, on which no further muhurta checking is required at all — schools and families across India begin learning that day for exactly this reason. If your window includes it, take it.
For a modern first-day-of-school (which the school fixes), use CHECK mode: if the date is personally weak for the child, do the RITUAL vidyarambha — the rice-plate first letters — at home on a nearby strong day, and let school begin when it begins.

Why is Basant Panchami exempt from muhurta checking?
It is held to be Saraswati's manifest day — an abujha (unquestioned) muhurta for anything of learning and the arts. Panchang blemishes that day are traditionally considered overridden by the devi's own presence.
