How this muhurta is determined
Three kinds of entry are distinguished: Apoorva (first entry into a newly built home) — the strictest; Sapoorva (entering a purchased or rented home) — moderate; and Dwandwah (re-entry after renovation or a long absence) — lightest. The date tables below apply the strict rules, so they are safe for all three.
Fixed (sthira) nakshatras root the household — this is why Rohini and the three Uttaras dominate every classical griha pravesh list. Panchak is an outright stop: entering, roofing and bed-setting during the five Panchak stars is among the best-known prohibitions in the panchang. Chaturmas (roughly July–November, Devshayani to Devuthani Ekadashi) is traditionally avoided for Apoorva pravesh.
On the day: a Ganesh puja at the threshold, the lady of the house carrying the kalash, right foot across the sill in a Shubh Choghadiya, and milk boiled till it spills — abundance announced to the new kitchen. Can griha pravesh be done during Chaturmas?

Whose rashi should the date be checked against?
The head of the household — the person in whose name the home is held. Best practice checks both partners: pick a date that is Chandrashtama for neither.
